ويندوز 8 الجديد ليس هناك وسيلة للإقلاع بشكل مباشر على سطح المكتب التقليدي في النسخة النهائية وبناء عليه قامت ميكروسوفت بإنشاء اختصارات جديدة بالإضافة إلى الاختصارات المستخدمة في الإصدارات السابقة من ويندوز لتسهيل سرعة الوصول للتطبيقات والإجراءات
